06 March 2023, Stockholm – The Philippine Embassy in Stockholm launched “Fika sa Embahada” on Saturday, 04 March 2023, at the Philippine Embassy.
Ambassador Maria Lumen B. Isleta welcomed Filipino community (FilCom) leaders to the Embassy and conveyed that the “Fika sa Embahada” will be held once per quarter to allow the Embassy and the Filipino community leaders to engage regularly and discuss a range of topics of interest to the community.
For its first installment, the Embassy took the opportunity to discuss its Consular services, information drive about overseas voters registration, and the planned cultural projects for the first semester of the year. Consul General Gines Ricardo D. Gallaga informed the guests of the requirements and process of passporting, legalization, civil registry, and dual citizenship.
Ambassador Isleta called on the leaders to disseminate the information to their respective members and expressed the hope of continued partnership and collaboration efforts with the Filipino Community in Sweden.
Fika was served at the end of the discussions. This allowed FilCom Leaders to raise specific questions with Embassy officers and staff. END.

03 March 2023, Stockholm - The International Maritime University (IMO) announced that following a competitive selection process, Filipino Professor Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr. has been selected as the incoming President of the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden. He will succeed current President Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry when her term expires on 29 June 2023.
Professor Mejia is currently the Director of the PhD Program and an Associate Academic Dean of the university. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Sciences from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in the United States. He then applied for a Master’s Programme in Maritime Safety Administration from the WMU, which he completed in 1994. He has a Licentiate of Engineering and a Ph.D. from Lund University.
He formerly served as Administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) of the Philippines from 2013 to 2016. END.

The Philippine Embassy in Stockholm will be opening a dedicated lane for female walk-in applicants who wish to renew their passports for the month of March, as part of the commemoration for the #nationalwomensmonth2023.

27 February 2022, Stockholm – H.E. Ambassador Maria Lumen B. Isleta called on Mr. Olle Burell, President of the Stockholm City Council at the Stockholm City Hall on 20 February 2023.
Ambassador Isleta took the opportunity to congratulate the President on forthcoming milestones to be celebrated this year: the centennial anniversary of the Stockholm City Hall, the 50th jubilee of the His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf’s accession to the throne, and the 500th anniversary of Gustav Vasa’s election as king.
Discussions on Philippines-Sweden bilateral relations, as well as the key areas for cooperation that the Philippines wishes to pursue with Sweden and activities involving the Filipino community in Sweden were taken up.
President Burell expressed his support for stronger cooperation in smart, green, and digital technologies, sharing his experience in the field during his Chairmanship of the Stockholm Green Innovation District project. President Burell conveyed the City Government’s openness to assist the Embassy on future activities. END.
