27 April 2023, Stockholm – In celebration of the Filipino Food Month, the Philippine Embassy, in partnership with the Philippine Education Society (PES), organized a lecture and demonstration of Filipino cuisine and culture for children on 22 April 2023, as part of the Silid-Aralan sa Embahada 2023 program.
PES Teacher Rofellita Larsson led the activities for the day, which started off with the children singing “Bahay Kubo”, a classic Filipino folk song that lists a number of vegetables in its lyrics.
Teacher Larsson then led the students in the preparation of “halo-halo”, a popular dessert in the Philippines meant to be enjoyed during warm weather, and which served as the children’s snacks for the afternoon.
To end the day’s session, the students played Patintero, one of the most popular “larong kalye” or outdoor games for children in the Philippines. Patintero requires two teams, where one team tries to get through the other team guarding a rectangular grid normally drawn using a chalk.
