19 September 2023, Stockholm - Philippine documentary films “Sama Dilaut” and “Hugo - A hidden Past Revealed bul-ul” were shown in Biocafé Tellus in Stockholm, Sweden. The film showing was organized by the Philippine Education Society (PES), a non-profit organization promoting education for Filipinos in the Philippines and Sweden.
“Sama Dilaut” tells the story of the discovery of a community living on the shores of Sabah and Tawi-Tawi in the Philippines known as Sama Dilaut, an ethnolinguistic group. “Hugo - A hidden Past Revealed bul-ul” is a story of a traditional and iconic Ifugao human-like wood carvings from the northern mountains of the Philippines. The sculptures are highly stylized representations of ancestors, and are thought to gain power from the presence of the ancestral spirit.
A Bulul is a carved wooden figure used to guard the rice crop by the Igorot peoples of northern Luzon.
To culminate the film showing, Director Rhadem Morados was joined on stage by Mr. Michael Dawila-Venning, Sama-Danish Ecologist with deep ties to the Sama Dilaut/Badjao communities, and Mr. Erik Abrahamsson, Swedish Anthropologist, writer and photographer with close studies on indigenous cultures and marine lifestyles for a panel discussion to answer questions from the audience.
Mr. Michael Dawila Venning, Mr. Erik Abrahamsson, and Mr. Rhadem Camlian Morados answer questions from the audience. Also in photo is Ms. Menchi Blomquist, who served as the moderator.
Both films were directed by Mr Morados, aka Rhadem Musawah. Embassy’s Cultural Officer Maria Luisa Roque and other personnel attended the film showing which was also viewed by other members of the Filipino community and some local Swedish nationals. END.
Ambassador Isleta writes her message for H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf
14 September 2023, Stockholm – Philippine Ambassador to Sweden Maria Lumen B. Isleta signs the congratulatory book at the Royal Palace to convey the greetings of the Government and people of the Philippines to His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the King’s accession to the throne.
HM King Carl XVI ascended the throne of the Kingdom of Sweden on the death of his grandfather, Gustaf VI Adolf, on 15 September 1973.
The book was opened for signature on 13 and 14 September for the Diplomatic Corps at the Office of the Marshal of the Realm in the Palace. END
