Philippine Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources MARIA ANTONIA YULO LOYZAGA visited the Falu Mine on 01 April 2025, located in Falun, Dalarna County, Sweden.
Secretary Loyzaga and members of the Philippine delegation were welcomed by Dalarna Governor HELENA HÖIJ. After a brief introduction on Dalarna County and the Falu Mine, the Philippine delegation were given a tour of the Falu Mine, which operated from the 10th century AC up to 1992 and was subsequently designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.
The visit to the Falu Mine is part of the activities organised for the Philippine delegation, who are visiting Sweden with the aim of gaining insights on Swedish best practices in sustainable mining, mining safety and innovation, and exploring possible areas of cooperation and investments in advanced technologies and research. Philippine Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources MARIA ANTONIA YULO LOYZAGA met with Mr. MARCUS WALLENBERG, Chair of Wallenberg Investments AB on 31 March 2025, in Stockholm, Sweden.
Both sides discussed the Philippine business climate as well the intersecting priorities of DENR in its efforts to balance sustainable, responsible extraction of resources with protection of the Philippine's megadiverse ecosystems. The discussion also included possible sectors which Wallenberg Investments may consider investing and/or expanding in the Philippines, as well as Swedish best practices with respect to environmental and forestry management.
