13 March 2023, Stockholm - Officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm renewed their commitment to achieve full gender equality and development as they launched the 2023 celebration of National Women’s Month as part of the worldwide observance of International Women’s Day (IWD).
For 2023, NWMC celebrations follow the theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society”, which emphasizes “promotion of a society that ensures inclusion, protection of fundamental freedoms, diversity, and social justice” and in which every individual is “capacitated and encouraged to take an active role to play”. It is also in line with the UN Women’s International Women’s Day theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”, which calls for the empowerment of women and girls toward maximizing their benefit from innovation and technology and bridging the gender gap in ICT and connectivity.
As part of the activities to commemorate the NWMC, the Embassy has opened a dedicated lane for female walk-in applicants who wish to renew their passports for the entire month of March. Female passport applicants may visit the Embassy on Mondays through Fridays from 9AM to 3PM, from 1 to 31 March 2023. Consular clients are also treated to free flowing brewed coffee at the Consular public area. END.
08 March 2023, Stockholm - Filipino cuisine continues to make its mark all over the world, which now includes Stockholm. On 02 March 2023, Kanto STHLM, the first Filipino bistro in Sweden’s capital, opened its doors to the public. (The word “kanto” means “corner” in Filipino.)
This venture is the brainchild of Filipino Chef Elle Phillips and is carried out in partnership with Jade Borday of Noel’s Pop Up. Chef Elle is known in Stockholm for her catering services through “Elle’s Kusina” and for bringing Filipino chocolates to Sweden through Tzocolaté.
Together with a team of Filipinos – composed of Luwie Pascual, Dionam Basco, Jon Tayson, Jane Wong, Arvin Albano, and Jahana Maneze – Chef Elle cooks up contemporary dishes that take after Filipino classics and highlight Filipino elements. Combining some of her favorite Filipino dishes together with locally-sourced ingredients. Kanto is making waves for how it brings awareness of Filipino cuisine and flavors in Sweden.
Kanto STHLM is located in Skånegatan 59, 116 37 Stockholm and is open until December 2023. Filipinos in Stockholm may also order from Kanto STHLM through Uber Eats. END
